TAWA FISHI FRY


Sliced fish seasoned with aromatic spices and shallow fried.

Preparation Time : 1 1/2 hours

Cooking Time : 10 minutes

Ingredients


King fish (surmai), sliced 500 grams
Lime juice 1 tablespoon
Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Mustard oil 1 tablespoon + to shallow fry
Onion , chopped 1 small
Cumin seeds, roasted 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander seeds, roasted 1/2 teaspoon
Ginger, chopped 1 1/2 inch piece
Garlic, chopped 10 cloves
Red chilli powder 1 tablespoon
Black pepper powder 1/2 teaspoon
Tomato, sliced 1 medium
Lemons, cut into wedges 2
Fresh mint leaves 10-15

Method

Apply lemon juice, turmeric powder and salt to the fish pieces and set aside for twenty to twenty five minutes.Heat one tablespoon mustard oil in a pan. Add onions and sauté till translucent. Add cumin seeds, coriander seeds, ginger and garlic and sauté for a minute more. Add red chilli powder and black pepper powder and take it off the heat. Set aside to cool.

Grind to a smooth paste adding a little water if required. Marinate the fish slices in this paste and set aside for an hour in the refrigerator.

Heat a tawa on medium heat and smear a little mustard oil on it. Arrange the marinated fish on the tawa.

Drizzle a little mustard oil around each fish slice and cook on a medium heat till crisp.

Flip and cook on the other side till crisp. Drain and place on an absorbent paper.

Arrange the fried fish on a plate. Spread tomato slices around them.

Garnish with lemon wedges and mint leaves and serve hot.
